MTNL reports yet another Quarter of loss, Net loss amounts to Rs. 834.22 Cr

State-run operator Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) has posted a net loss of Rs 834.22 crore in the second quarter of this fiscal. Down from Rs 947.1 crore loss posted in the same quarter last year. For the quarter ended 30th September, total income from operations increased to Rs 850.7 crore. Which is lesser than Rs 856.02 crore posted in the same quarter last year.

Revenues from basic (Fixed line) services continues to dominate MTNL’s revenues. The segment reported revenues of Rs 669.3 crore for the quarter, down from Rs 670.5 crore in the previous quarter but up from Rs 640.82 crore in the same quarter last year. The loss before tax was nearly flat at Rs 317.4 crore for the quarter, down from Rs 318.3 crore loss in the previous quarter. A huge improvement from Rs 499.6 crore loss posted in the same quarter last year.

Basic services contributed for 78.7% of MTNL’s net income for the quarter, as compared to 78% contribution in the same quarter last year. The company's revenues from cellular services declined to Rs 185.5 crore for the quarter, down 1.9% from Rs 189.1 crore in the previous quarter but up 3.8% from Rs 178.7 crore in the same quarter last year.

The loss before tax increased to Rs 119.7 crore for the quarter, up from Rs 111.3 crore loss in the previous quarter but improved from Rs 122.3 crore in the same quarter last year.

The cellular services accounted for 21.8% of MTNL’s net income for the quarter, as compared to 22% in in the same quarter last year.
