Motorola sold 2.5 million smartphones in India via Flipkart

Motorola ended its operations in India in the year 2012, that was a temporary exit only to return with a big bang. Now a Lenovo-owned company, Motorola has made a grand comeback. The company resumed its selling in India this year and in just initial five months, it sold one million handsets. Today, Flipkart has released some statistics about its sales numbers. According to the statistics, Motorola has sold 2.5 million units in India till date.

However, Flipkart has not provided breakup of the numbers, it has also announced few giveaways in order to celebrate the milestone sale.

Motorola Giveaways:

  1. Flipkart will be choosing five winners and will be awarding them with a gift voucher worth Rs 50,000 each.
  2. 100 buyers will receive 100 percent cashback on buying a Motorola smartphone.

Motorola recently received the title of being the fifth-biggest smartphone company in the world. The company made its comeback in the Indian market by partnering with the e-commerce giant Flipkart. It launched five smartphones, Moto G, Moto X, Moto E, second-generation Moto G and Moto X since its return to the Indian shores. The reason behind Motorola’s sudden rise can be duly credited to its budget phones such as Moto G and the Moto E. Most of the Motorola smartphones run stock Android with minimal additions which delivers smooth performance and speedy updates.

The top slot sale of Motorola made companies like Micromax, Karbonn, Lava to slash the price of their devices and to enhance the hardware specifications. However, it proved to be limited glory for Motorola, as it was slammed with a stiff competition from the Chinese rival Xiaomi, which also offered high-end specifications at even lower price. Xiaomi sold whooping 800,000 handsets in less than five months and its rising popularity is causing a stir in Motorola’s happiness.

I fell prey to Flipkart’s giveaway some months ago when a similar offer was launched for purchase of Moto X (1st Gen). There was no transparency and in the end nobody knew who won the sweepstake or whether the 100% cash back was even real – the instructions were not communicated properly. FK could have used its IT system to make it easier for online purchasers to participate – please ensure you confirm and reconfirm about the procedure for participation.
