If there is one thing in today’s smartphones that has undergone a lot evolution, it is the display. The smartphone display has changed massively in the last one year, from 18:9 screens with bezels, then to the notch, the waterdrop notch, pop-up selfie cameras and also the punch-hole. This time, Motorola has announced its new phone while placing the bet on the punch-hole style front camera, along with impressive camera setup and a massive display. The phone that we are talking about is the Motorola One Vision which went official on June 20, 2019, and it comes with a 48MP camera, 21:9 screen and Android One. Here are the first impressions of the phone.

Motorola One Vision First Impressions: Design and Display

As soon as you place your gaze on the Motorola One Vision, you are struck by the tall form factor of the device. The device looks tall in a single look, but when you hold it you will realise that the device is actually taller than any other phone of its kind out there. The device comes with a 21:9 aspect ratio. The display on the Motorola One Vision is a Cinema Vision display which comes with an immersive 6.3-inch Full HD+ screen with a resolution of 1080 x 2520 pixels. On the rear side, the phone fancies a gradient display which reflects a lot of light and gives the device a premium feel. We had our hands on the Sapphire Blue variant, and it managed to garner some attention owing to its design.

Also, the tall form factor makes the phone comfortable to hold. The plus point of such a massive display is witnessed when you watch movies on Netflix and other streaming services and when you pinch and expand the screen, there is no cropping, and you can enjoy an immersive experience. The phone also comes with a silicone cover, but with the cover, the device feels a little heavier. There is, however, one catch when you watch shows on the phone and other YouTube videos as not every video is going to be in 21:9 aspect ratio. Also, some users might feel that the punch-hole on this device is a little too big, and that’s why you might take might some time to adjust with the larger width status bar. On other terms, the display feels excellent as the brightness levels are impressive and colours also appear vibrant.

Motorola One Vision First Impressions: Performance, Software and Battery

The interesting thing to note about the Motorola One Vision is that it uses a Samsung chipset instead of a Qualcomm one. It comes powered by 2.2GHz octa-core Samsung Exynos 9609 SoC with 4GB of RAM. Although the device offers 128GB of storage, the device comes with a micro-SD card slot which allows for expansion up to 512GB. When we used the phone, thanks to the impressive chipset the phone did not lag or show any signs of heating when we multitasked and switched between apps rapidly. This phone will also receive the next two Android updates as well. Motorola One Vision currently runs on Android 9 Pie. Moto has also shipped its own popular features along with this phone like the chop-chop flashlight and other quirks to make the phone familiar for Moto fans.

As for the battery on the Motorola One Vision, the device sports a 3,500mAh cell which comes with support for TurboPower fast-charging. The port on the device is a USB Type-C one. On our one full day of usage with WhatsApp messaging, Twitter, one hour of Netflix, Spotify and more apps, the device was able to last one full day with 20% of battery left at the end of the day. The charging time of the phone was also impressive, and it could get to 50% in around 40 minutes.

Motorola One Vision First Impressions: Camera

The Motorola One Vision sports a 48MP dual rear camera setup paired with a 5MP depth sensing unit. The phone comes with an f/1.7 aperture for the 48MP sensor and f/2.2 for the 5MP sensor. The device also supports OIS for smooth shots. During daylight, the images clicked come with impressive details, and it's owing to the combination of four pixels into one. The colour representation is also noteworthy. The front camera of the device which is a 25MP camera also snaps beautiful selfies and offers many degrees of blur options in the portrait mode, but even then, the front shooter sometimes struggles to detect the edges.

The rear camera setup of the device also handles low-light pictures pretty well. The phone also comes with dedicated Night Vision mode, which clicks impressive pictures at night, albeit with a little bit grain.

Motorola One Vision First Impressions: Verdict

When it comes to deciding the Motorola One Vision, there is no doubt that the phone is a very appreciable offering from Lenovo and it claims to offer everything that a user might require including camera, performance, display and design. However, when it comes to a price-value comparison you might want to wait for detailed review, since if you would like to get your hands on an Android One device with good display, new design and some additional quirks, the Motorola One Vision might be the right choice for you.
