Micromax has started sending out invites for its upcoming event, which according to the invite will take place on December 18. Last month, Micromax had announced that it will launch a new mobile device brand called 'Yu', whose handsets will be sold online, following the latest trend of Chinese handset makers like Xiaomi and OnePlus.

The reason Micromax wants to try out the online model is understandable. As a company, it can cut costs and can import devices in batches for flash sales. It is currently working great for companies like Xiaomi and OnePlus.

The invite, however, doesn't give much info, except that mentions 'Play God'. Micromax co-founder Rahul Sharma has said that the phone is going to be a monster, indicating that it will be a high end device.

What we do know is that the device will sport Cyanogen operating system (based on Android). After the OnePlus mess, Cyanogen clarified that it will have an exclusive relationship with Micromax' Yu brand. After Cyanogen's exclusive tie up with Micromax, OnePlus had announced that Indian users of OnePlus One won't receive any updates on its ROM and that it is coming up with its own software. On December 9, Cyanogen announced that it will support the OnePlus One, however, it quickly took a U-turn and clarified that only global OnePlus One handsets will receive the update and not the handsets sold in India.

We will keep you updated on the device launched by Micromax.
