Lenovo has begun rolling out the Android 7.0 Nougat software update for its budget Lenovo K6 Power and K6 Note. The Lenovo K6 Power was launched in December last year with Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Both the smartphones have similar specifications, but the K6 Note is available in the offline market, while the K6 Power is limited to the online market.
Of late, Lenovo is under tremendous pressure for not delivering timely software updates. All the Lenovo smartphones are great value for money options in the market, but the software updates are the only concern because they never deliver updates on time. For example, consider the flagship Lenovo Z2 Plus, which is promised to receive Android Nougat update in December 2016, but Lenovo started rolling out the update in mid-April. Also, the Chinese brand ignored to deliver a VoLTE update for the Vibe X3.
As a result, customers out there are looking for other brands for a software update, which is a huge concern. However, both the K6 Power and K6 Note now joins the small list of Android 7.0 Nougat powered smartphones in the budget segment, where only a few phones such as Honor 6X, Nokia 3, etc. are running the latest Android OS.
The upgrade for both the phones brings various new features from the core Android Nougat OS. Lenovo has mentioned six noteworthy changes for both the phones.
Enhanced multitasking with Multi-window Support
With multi-window support, the K6 Note and K6 Power can now run two apps simultaneously on the screen. This feature was introduced with the official Android Nougat OS last year. Just tap on the recent apps button and drag the apps to the top of the screen. For instance, you could be watching a YouTube video while replying to a message on WhatsApp or surfing the web while running the calculator app. You can combine both the apps into a single window with the multi-window feature.
Data saver
Lenovo also added a data saver mode in both the phones, which limit background data usage when you are not on a Wi-Fi network. You can even restrict data usage on individual apps.
Smarter & Bundled Notifications
The Android Nougat notification centre is now available for the K6 Power and K6 Note, which has a cleaner looking notifications. Also, the Quick Reply feature makes its way with the update for both the devices.
Quick App Switching
Double tap the recent apps button on the K6 Power and K6 Note and it automatically switches to the last app you were using. No more manually selecting from a list of running apps- a nice feature to have around.
Better Battery life with Doze on the go
Along with Lenovo’s ultimate power saver, the Android 7.0 Nougat update adds updated Doze mode whenever the phone isn’t in active use. The advanced Doze mode will restrict the apps from running in the background when the phone is in the idle state.
Display Text Size
You can now change the size on the font itself. You can now make the K6 Power and K6 Note easier to read by changing the font to larger and you can make it smaller as well.
Along with these changes, Lenovo has added some other minor tweaks as well and has updated the phones to latest Android security patch. You can check for an update by heading over to Settings> About Phone> System Updates. Make sure that you have at least 50 percent charge left in your phone before proceeding with the update.
