Dharamshala & Mcleodganj, becomes the first hill station in the state to enter the digital age today, with the inauguration of ‘Jionet’, high speed Wi-Fi Internet service from Reliance JIO Infocomm Limited (RJIL) by the Shri Sudhir Mishra Ji – Honourable Minister of Housing, Urban Development and Town & Country Planning in the Government of Himachal Pradesh. ‘Jionet’ High Speed Wi-Fi service will be covering Macleo Chowk and Temple road in Mcleodganj and Kotwali in Dharamshala of HP.

As a part of the Himachal Pradesh government’s initiative to convert Dharamshala into a ‘Smart City’, people and visitors of Dharamshala/ Mcleodganj will be able to experience high speed wireless connectivity on hand held devices (smart phones / tablets) through Reliance JIO’s Wi-Fi.
Also ‘Jionet’ is live at Mall Road, Manali, Kullu and Hamirpur locations.
Speaking on the occasion, a spokesperson of Reliance JIO Infocomm said, “High speed data connectivity is one of the foundations on which future prosperity of cities and nations will be built. By deploying Jionet’ Wi-Fi services at Dharamshala/ Mcleodganj, a famous tourist destination, we want people to experience the high speed internet and rich digital content through specially designed apps to enrich their lives.”
The users’ feedback will be used to improve the services further as JIO gets ready for its formal launch. Once 4G LTE service commences, Wi-Fi and LTE networks will operate seamlessly with each other.
