Jio which started offering services in December last year to Reliance employees and their families and launched preview offer in May this year to invite interested people to early access their all IP network has now more than 5 million users on their network. Sharing the Jio launch details, Mukesh Ambani, Chairman - RIL shared they have gained so many users in a short while.
In last 4 months, the company has added more than 3.5 million customers thanks to Jio Preview Offer which is now available for more than 19 smartphone brands. The operator recently migrated JPO to 'Jio Welcome Offer' under which one can easily get a SIM without worrying about charges for the rest of the year as Jio is offering free data, calls, SMS and access to premium Jio apps till 31st December, 2016. So, all you have to pay for services from next year.
But, with the Jio Welcome Offer we believe Jio will try to double the subscriber figures, before charging for services. Thanking Jio employees for reaching some hard milestone in a short while, Mukesh Ambani said 'I have always set impossible goals for Jio team and they have exceeded my expectations'.
After reaching the 5 million subscribers mark in an aggressive mode, Mukesh Ambani said 'Today I set a target to team Jio to acquire 100 million subscribers in the shortest possible time and create a new world record'. He also requested rival operators to play fair and ensure the consumer rights so they can easily switch to Jio through MNP if they want.
Talking about the data usage by the users, Mukesh Ambani said that company is getting 250 crore GB of data usage per month. So if we calculate it as average data usage per user, it will be around 50GB/month, much higher than the industry average. Though we at TT expect it to fall soon when Jio would start charging for services as per plans.
