Reliance Jio, which saw a slight downfall in terms of speeds during Q2 2018 is now getting back to its normal state. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has updated its My Speed website with the readings of August 2018. Without any surprise, Jio is leading the chart with an average 4G download speed of 22.3 Mbps. In July, Jio saw its average download speed declined to 19.9 Mbps, but in August 2018, the download speeds are back to over 20 Mbps. Bharti Airtel is second the list with an average download speed of 10 Mbps, followed by Vodafone India with 6.7 Mbps speeds and Idea Cellular with 6.2 Mbps speeds.

Reliance Jio's Average Download Speed Crosses 20 Mbps Yet Again

It's been over two years since Reliance Jio came into existence. Since then, the company has maintained pole position when it comes to Trai's 4G speed results. For over six months, Trai registered average download speeds of above 15 Mbps and the trend continues. Jio has undercut the rivals by a huge margin. Airtel, which is second on the list during the speed test results of August 2018 registered just 10 Mbps average 4G download speed on its network, which is two times less than that of Reliance Jio. Airtel's average download speed increased by a mere 0.3 Mbps from 9.7 Mbps to 10 Mbps. On the flip side, Idea maintained a stable position, while Vodafone also saw its average 4G download speed increase by 0.3 Mbps to 6.7 Mbps.

Idea Cellular Leads 4G Upload Speeds List

While Jio dominated the download speed list, its struggles continue in the upload speeds department. During August 2018, Idea Cellular, as always topped the average 4G upload speed chart with 5.9 Mbps speeds. Vodafone is second on the list with 5.1 Mbps speeds, followed by Jio with 4.9 Mbps average upload speed and Airtel is last on the list with 4.4 Mbps average upload speed.

In the upload speeds department, Vodafone followed Idea Cellular with a slight improvement at 5.1 Mbps from 5 Mbps it registered in July. Both Jio and Airtel also showed slight improvement. In July, Jio and Airtel registered 4.7 Mbps and 4.3 Mbps average 4G upload speeds, but in August 2018, the speeds are marginally up to 4.9 Mbps and 4.4 Mbps respectively.

Download Speeds Play an Important Role in User Experience

Telecom operators in India are racing up the infrastructure to deliver seamless data experience to the users. Airtel is aggressively expanding its 4G infrastructure across the country, while Jio is silently adding more 4G towers to its existing portfolio. Download speeds always plan an important role in the user experience. For example, if a user is watching a video on YouTube, then the downlink speeds matter a lot. If the download speed is better, then the video buffering would be extremely smooth.
