Reliance Jio Said to Be Charging Rs 1,000 Installation Charges for New GigaFiber Connection

Reliance Jio is now said to be charging Rs 1,000 as installation charges from customers who're picking up a new GigaFiber connection. At the Reliance Industries 42nd Annual General Meeting, Mukesh Ambani is expected to announce the public rollout of GigaFiber FTTH services. But before the event, Reliance Jio seems to have made some changes to its Preview Offer which may be available for consumers even after the public rollout. According to several customers in cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, and so on, Reliance Jio has started charging Rs 1,000 installation charges from the customers. Earlier, there used to be no installation charges and the entire amount which the ISP collects from the users will fall under the refundable policy of the company, but that's not the scenario anymore, as per this latest update.

Jio GigaFiber Installation Charges Introduced: Everything You Need to Know

According to the information we have, Reliance Jio is dividing the amount which it collects from the users into two parts- installation charges and refundable amount. Here's how this scheme works: Right now, Reliance Jio is providing two plans to the customers- one is the newly introduced Rs 2,500 one and the other one is the older Rs 4,500 plan. In the past, Jio used to collect Rs 2,500 and Rs 4,500 refundable amount from the customers, respectively. And it continues to collect the same amount, but Rs 1,000 will fall under installation charges and it won't fall under the company's refundable amount policy.

Assume, if a customer opts for the Rs 2,500 Jio GigaFiber plan, then it will be divided into two parts- Rs 1,500 refundable amount and Rs 1,000 installation charges. So if a customer plans to discontinue Jio GigaFiber services, the company will provide Rs 1,500 refund amount only and not the earlier Rs 2,500 amount. The same case applies to the Rs 4,500 plan as well as the refund amount will be Rs 3,500 and the rest Rs 1,000 will fall under installation charges.

This change also gives us a hint that the public rollout of Jio GigaFiber is around the corner. Reliance Industries 42nd AGM is scheduled for tomorrow, where we might see the company announcing plans of Jio GigaFiber and other details.

Reliance Jio GigaFiber Preview Offer Might Continue After Public Rollout

Reliance Jio GigaFiber service was announced last year along with an offer called 'Reliance JioGigaFiber Preview.' Under the preview offer, customers are offered 100 Mbps speeds with 100GB FUP limit, which can be extended with 40GB data add-ons from the MyJio app. The overall data benefit given to the customers was 1.1TB every month. Also, Jio is providing a free router to the customers; The Rs 4,500 preview plan of Jio GigaFiber offers a 5 GHz router, while the Rs 2,500 plan comes with a 2.5 GHz router and the same data benefit of 1.1TB.

According to our sources, Reliance Jio will continue to provide Preview offer to the new customers, while the existing customers will be moved to the tariff plans which the company might announce tomorrow.

Reliance Jio Landline Service Introduced as Well

Ahead of the public launch, Reliance Jio has started the rollout of its landline voice calling service, dubbed, JioFixedVoice. The existing Jio GigaFiber customers are being asked by the company to set up a landline telephone which will also work through the Jio4GVoice application. With the landline service, customers will be able to make unlimited voice calls to any network in the country and it's pretty much similar to the landline service offered by Airtel and BSNL.
