Wireless Subscribers Addition/Subtraction in June 2023
Reliance Jio added 2.27 million wireless subscribers while Airtel added 1.4 million wireless subscribers. Vodafone Idea lost 1.2 million wireless users while BSNL lost 1.8 million wireless users. At the end of June 2023, Jio had a market share of 38.35% in the wireless subscribers segment. At the second rank was Airtel, with 32.68% market share followed by Vodafone Idea and BSNL with 20.08% and 8.71% market share respectively.
In the active subscribers' department, Jio now has 414.49 million active wireless users, the highest in the industry and meant a growth of 2.34 million active users MoM. Airtel had 372.77 million active users, reflecting a growth of only 0.11 million active users MoM. Vodafone Idea had 202.75 million active users, meaning a loss of 2.51 million active users MoM. BSNL had 52.04 million active users, meaning a loss of 0.74 million active users.
Vodafone Idea is very close to dipping below the 200 million mark for its active subscriber base. The loss for Vi has converted into a gain for Airtel and Jio.
Even in the wireline segment, Jio and Airtel added 0.20 and 0.13 million users while Vodafone Idea and BSNL lost 0.01 million and 0.05 million users. This trend has been continuing for years now. Vi and BSNL need to figure out a way to arrest the subscriber so that they can keep their revenues and performance in check.
