Technology Demonstration

The demonstration involved Infinera, a company known for its intelligent coherent pluggable technology (ICE-X), and LightRiver, a provider of netFLEX Transport Domain Orchestration and Control Software.

The demonstration highlighted the successful integration of Infinera's ICE-X coherent pluggable technology with LightRiver's netFLEX software, showing how these technologies can work seamlessly together.

The demonstration includes Infinera's ICE-X line of intelligent coherent pluggables deployed in third-party host devices, including routers from Juniper Networks operating over a Smartoptics open ROADM system and the leading FTTX PON solution, said the official release.

Network Efficiency

The main focus was on how network orchestration, combined with intelligent coherent pluggable solutions, can significantly enhance network efficiency. This includes improvements in operation, management, and capacity expansion.

The demonstration illustrated the ability of Infinera's Intelligent Pluggables Manager (IPM) software to enable multi-vendor network automation. This allows different vendor solutions to work together harmoniously, potentially reducing operational complexities.

Expanding Network Capacity

The demonstration indicated that by leveraging next-generation coherent pluggables, network capacity could be expanded significantly, possibly up to 40 times the current capacity.

The technology showcase indicated that the combined solution could enable the delivery of new high-speed business services, benefiting both urban and remote rural areas.

The solution's capabilities were showcased to deliver high-speed services to currently underserved remote rural areas, possibly utilizing single-fibre FTTX PON (Fiber-To-The-X Passive Optical Network) infrastructures.

Optical Network Visibility

Infinera's ICE-X intelligent coherent pluggable solution was noted to provide network operators with visibility into the optical layer of their networks, which was previously lacking. This enhanced visibility helps streamline operations.

"Infinera remains committed to delivering industry-leading open optical networking solutions, and we are proud to collaborate with LightRiver and other industry vendors to validate that these multi-layered disaggregated solutions can be rapidly deployed and managed," said Infinera.

Overall, the demonstration appears to showcase how a combination of intelligent coherent pluggable technology, network orchestration software, and automation can significantly improve network efficiency, capacity, and the delivery of services to a wider range of areas.
