This mobile-based solution will be available on both smartphones and feature phones, and it will offer features like Emergency Alerts, Emergency Balance, and Private Number Recharge. The service is being launched in the week of International Women’s Day and is already live for subscribers of Idea in Andhra Pradesh & Telangana, Assam & North East, TN incl. Chennai, Kerala, Gujarat, J&K, Maharashtra & Goa, MP & Chhattisgarh and Delhi. Idea has also announced that it will expand the service to all its 22 circles within this month.

How to Register for Idea Sakhi?

The highlight of Idea Sakhi service is that it works on all platforms and is not only limited to Android or iOS and it will work even if the subscriber does not have any data or voice balance on his number. This will ensure that women will be able to access the service anytime and anywhere. If you are an Idea subscriber, you can register for and activate the Idea Sakhi service in two steps. Firstly, you will need to call on the toll-free number 1800-123-100, where you will be able to interact in multiple languages. After that, you will be required to register Emergency contacts of friends and family. Subscribers will be able to register up to ten contacts in this list.

After the registration in Sakhi service, the subscriber will receive a 10-digit proxy number, with which she can recharge her connection at any retail store without revealing her actual mobile number. Also, the subscriber will receive 10 minutes of free local/STD calls, 10 SMS and 100MB data when her balance is lower than Re 1. In case the Sakhi user wants to send an Emergency or a Safe Alert, then she will need to give a missed call to 55100 to send an Emergency Alert after which, a call, flash and SMS with the location and time details of the Sakhi user will be sent to the Emergency Contacts, alerting them. For a safety alert, the Sakhi user will need to dial 55100 and then press two after which SMS with the location and time details of the Sakhi user will be sent to the Emergency Contacts, for assistance.
