After long wait, Huawei releases Android Nougat update for Honor 8 in India: Here’s what’s new

Huawei Honor 8 is the next on the queue receiving Android Nougat update. The company has officially announced the news. The US received the updates last week and India will get it by the end of February 2017. Nougat update will come as a part of version FRD-L02C675B310 and upgrades the software to EMUI 5.0. The phone originally has Marshmallow-based EMUI 4.1 software.

Android Nougat brings some serious improvements to Huawei Honor 8 such as bundled notifications, new multitasking shortcuts, Daydream, etc. In the bundled notification, when more than one message is received from an app, it is displayed as a group and the user can progressively expand the notifications. The users can even reply/dismiss to the messages while the notification appears.

New multitasking on Nougat is interesting that users can go to a new app and double click the recent app button to return to the app he was last using. Multi-window mode (split screen mode) for apps is another new experience in Nougat. The users can long-press the recent app button to access this mode. The capability to use two Chrome tabs simultaneously and dragging/dropping text or images (when in multi-window mode), etc. are other additions to multi-window feature.

A few design changes in Nougat bring wallpaper to lock screen, close all button to the recent app list, search all app feature, etc. Nougat will start storing the source of the app installation, ability to set the priority of notification, data saver, changes in quick settings, new emojis, etc. are other additions.

Huawei Honor 8 Specifications

Meanwhile, if to recap, Huawei Honor 8 sports a 5.2-inch display of 1920 x 1080 pixels full HD resolution. It has 2.3GHz octa-core Hisilicon Kirin 950 - ARM Cortex A72 + ARM Cortex A53 processor paired with 4GB RAM. There is an internal storage of 32GB which can be expanded up to 128GB using a microSD card. There is a dedicated slot for memory card.

In terms of camera, the smartphone has dual 12MP at the back and an 8MP at the front. Primary camera features a wide range of specifications, such as quick shooting, panoramic shooting, touch to capture, burst shoot, etc.

In terms of connectivity, Honor 8 supports 4G-LTE, Wi-Fi, GPRS, EDGE, Bluetooth, etc. A 3000mAh battery powers the devices. The smartphone is priced at Rs. 29,999 on e-commerce sites such as Flipkart, Amazon, etc.

Meanwhile, there are also rumours that Huawei Honor 8 is getting a successor – Honor 8 Pro, which is expected to be unveiled at MWC 2017. The main changes are in the screen size and battery. Honor 8 Pro may come with a 5.7-inch screen and a massive battery of 3900mAh.
