How Jio Influenced the Recharge Pack Pricing of Incumbents and Changed Paradigm

Gone are the days when telecom subscribers bothered to do recharge twice. One for talktime and another for reducing the call rate which varied as per the telecom circle. The telecom market was flooded with talktime, special tariff vouchers, rate cutters, data packs, and SMS packs back then.

It took a great amount of patience for a subscriber to finally zero-in on a suitable recharge offer. The roaming packs offered by incumbent operators are to be bought additionally over the base packs even today.
Reliance Jio has changed the recharge paradigm. It has introduced the concept of uniformity in recharge denominations. As an example, Rs. 153 plan is valid for Kerala as well as UP circle. Following the footsteps of Jio, incumbents have started offering all-in-one recharge – calling plus data.

But roaming still remains a distant dream for subscribers stuck with incumbents. Jio abolished the notion that a subscriber will have to pay for data and voice services separately always. We are now in the digital era where data has to be cheap. Reliance Jio has demolished the monopoly of incumbent telecom operators over recharge packs.

After the commercial launch of Jio with several new plans, Airtel, Vodafone, Idea, and Aircel have tried to match Jio. BSNL offers plans with more data at a similar price point. But these are not the only plans these telecom operators have offered to match up to Reliance Jio, since it went paid in April this year.

Let us take a quick look at the best data and talktime value offers launched by all the major telcos since the ‘Jio Summer Surprise’ offer was launched.

Any one here from Kolkata used PMPL Broadband. I am thinking of getting a broadband connection. Here in our area Alliance Broadband is not available and the only option is PMPL Broadband. So i am thinking of getting PMPL Jet Silver Economy Plan(@512Kbps Unlimited/Rs.550+18% GST). Should i take this broadband connection. Any PMPL user here please share your opinion. Thanks….

@Pallab: I am from Kanchrapara. I am using PMPL broadband. I am using 450 rupee unlimited pack. There have other unlimited packs like 590 , 5mbps … Speed varies on local operator’s maintenance. Earlier there had huge problem but now speed and connectivity is decent. One surprising thing is in low budget, YouTube never buffers. Earlier I used alliance but due to their frequently connection interruption I changed to this broadband service.
