Google Pixel 11 Could Have this Current iPhone Feature: Report

iPhones already have them. Because the bezels were getting thinner, and device makers wanted to offer maximum screen space to the users at the front, the IR camera had to go away from the Pixels. To be specific, it was the Pixel 7 series which said goodbye to the IR cameras.

Highlights

  • Google is likely planning to bring infrared (IR) cameras back to the Pixel devices with the Pixel 11 series.
  • Google's Tensor 6 has an image signal processor (ISP) which will come with support for an under-display IR camera system.
  • An under-display-IR camera system would make face authentication quicker, more accurate, and more secure for the users.

Not every advancement that you are going to read in the news will be about AI (artificial intelligence), and this is one such report. Google, one of the most popular Android device makers is going to bring a new feature to the Pixel series, which used to be there on the devices a few generations ago, that is currently present in the iPhones. An under-display-IR camera system would make face authentication quicker, more accurate, and more secure for the users. At the same time, the chip would bring more efficiency so that this feature doesn't take up a lot of power. This would be a great thing to see. One thing to note here is that Android Authority says it is not necessary that users will get to see this upgrade with the Pixel 11 only. The chip will have the support, but Google may or may not go ahead with the integration of the under-display IR-camera system. For now, you can enjoy the Pixel 9 series, which to be honest, is one of the best-looking smartphone series in the market.
