Google’s ecosystem is so large that sometimes it escapes our minds in which nook and corners we can find Google Assistant. With that being said, the span of Google Assistant is very wide, and nowadays with the increasing prominence of smart TVs, it would not be surprising to find Android TV-powered TVs in India. But, these TVs also come with the Google Assistant in-built to provide better voice control to the users. Now, being in India, there is a large chunk of population that speaks in Hindi and if there is anything that we know about Google is that it wants the people to have most ease while conversing with the Google Assistant, and to do that, the search giant had rolled out support for Hindi language on the mobiles phones. But, the support for Hindi language on Google Assistant was powered by the Android operating system, which meant that the TVs could not yet utilise the Hindi language on Google Assistant on their Android TVs. However, in a new move, Google has extended the Hindi language support for Android TVs as well.

Hindi Support for Smart TVs Rolling Out Now

This new piece of information comes from a Google Support Page which reveals that the support for Hindi and Vietnamese has been added to Android TVs. The Support Page from Google reads, "On Android TVs, the Google Assistant is available in English, French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazilian), Spanish, and Vietnamese. More languages are coming soon.” Along with this, Google also gave out information about the status of the TVs which do not run on its smart TV platform. For example, in the case of LG TVs, the Google Assistant supports languages like English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese (Brazil), and Spanish. Whereas, on the other hand, for the other TVs, Google has noted that the assistant currently supports English only.

Rollout to Happen Slowly for Android TVs

Now for all the smart TV owners out there who must be thinking of using the Google Assistant to give commands, run searches and do other fun activities, we would say to have a little patience. This is because although Google itself has enabled the support for Hindi language on Google voice Assistance on its Android TV platform, the actual availability of the feature would be subject to when your TV manufacturer pushes the update. So, in case you have not yet received the update on your Smart TV, you will most likely have to wait and see when your TV manufacturer pushes the Hindi support for Google Assistant.

Better Support for Hindi on Smartphones

Not only this but back in September, Google had released another update for Android smartphone users, wherein they could easily change the language in which they interact with the Google Assistant. If the users want to switch to Hindi, then they would have to say, "Okay Google, Hindi Mein bolo simply.” As per Google’s information, the feature is available on Android, Android Go and KaiOS powered devices. There are also more languages which the Google Assistant supports, and these Indic languages include Bengali, Marathi, Urdu, Tamil, Gujarati, Kannada, Urdu and Telugu.

Back in February this year, Google had also announced the Google Assistant support for the Messages app as well. This means that the users have now been enabled to use the Google Assistant to input information in the Messages app. Here also, Google Assistant will support Indic languages like Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, and Urdu.
