BT Group’s EE has launched its 5G standalone network (5G SA), powered by AI, across fifteen major UK cities. EE said its new network promises faster speeds, better gaming and video streaming, and near-uninterrupted outdoor coverage, with features tailored for AI-powered devices. EE has also unveiled new plans to complement this launch.

5G Standalone Network in 15 Major UK Cities
“An AI network built for the AI generation, 5G standalone is now live across 15 major cities and is immediately available as part of a new suite of pay-monthly mobile plans,” EE announced Thursday.
EE’s new 5G standalone network has been launched in Bath, Belfast, Birmingham, Bradford, Bristol, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Hull, Leeds, Leicester, Liverpool, London, Manchester, and Sheffield.
AI-Powered Automation and Energy Efficiency
The company explained that its 5G SA network is powered by AI technology, utilising automation to improve reliability and machine learning to reduce energy demand on the grid by putting mobile cells into sleep mode when not in use.
EE added that the 5G SA network is designed to support future AI applications, ensuring seamless cloud connectivity for the best user experience.

New Pay-Monthly Plans
EE has also introduced new pay-monthly plans, including the All Rounder and Full Works options, which offer benefits like unlimited data, EU roaming, and exclusive access to Google One AI Premium. Network Boost, a feature available with select tariffs, prioritises capacity in busy areas to ensure optimal performance.
