OTT Platform Disney+ Hotstar has introduced an AI-driven video optimisation feature that enhances streaming quality while reducing data usage. This new technology adapts encoding based on user habits and scene complexity, leading to up to a 25 percent reduction in download size without sacrificing HD quality. This is a smarter approach to video encoding that adapts to the user consumption patterns, context and complexity around each scene, Disney+ Hotstar said in a statement Monday.

AI-Driven Video Optimisation
According to the company, the patent-pending technology has already optimised over 700 titles in the platform's content library, setting a new standard for streaming efficiency.
Commenting on this feature, Mukund Acharya, Head of Technology at Disney+ Hotstar said, "Our new patent - pending encoding techniques improve watch time per GB by 12.5 percent, reflecting our commitment to enhancing streaming for everyone and making entertainment accessible to everyone."
User-Centric Quality
"This advanced technique puts the user at the core, estimating the pulse of consumption experience and quality, watch patterns and user journey. It leverages AI-based models to estimate and refine scene complexity, resulting in an optimised and data-efficient viewing experience," the official release said.

This development enhances viewer experience by improving the user centric quality of experience around context aware scenes while maintaining efficiency for simpler content, Disney+ Hotstar added.
