Digicel Fiji Completes First Phase of Xtreme Fibre Network in Suva

Digicel Fiji has announced the successful completion of the initial phase of its Xtreme Fibre network in Suva, Fiji. The underground fibre layout project, which commenced in September, spans seven kilometres along Khalsa Road, Nokonoko Road, and Ratu Dovi Road, connecting to the International Landing Station (ILS) in Vatuwaqa, according to the official statement.




Milestone Achievement in Suva's Connectivity

Digicel says this marks a milestone for its mission to enhance connectivity and provide cutting-edge solutions to its business customers. The deployment of the Xtreme Fibre network aligns with Digicel's LTE network upgrade and capacity expansion program, promising improved data speed and coverage for users.

Support for Fiji's 5G Testbed

The newly established Digicel Xtreme Fibre network is also designed to support the 5G testbed, furthering Fiji's technological advancements.

Digicel Fiji said, "With the finest digital infrastructure under the streets, our corporate customers and public institutions will soon be tapping into the huge benefits to come."

In addition, Digicel Fiji announced its first commercial customer connected through the newly laid fibre network: Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Fiji (CCEP), a beverage company.

Xtreme Fibre network is an independent, stand-alone infrastructure incorporating greater redundancy and resilience for businesses like CCEP Fiji, added Digicel.

Enhanced Connectivity for Business Customers

According to Digicel Fiji, its fibre network is built to international standards and utilizes the latest and best technology available, guaranteeing high-quality service. The fibre is said to have been strategically installed deeper underground to provide enhanced security against accidental damage during construction and road maintenance projects.

Second Phase of Project

Digicel Fiji is currently working on the second phase of the Xtreme Fibre layout project, which involves completing the fibre ring around Suva. The expansion will cover an area of up to 18 kilometres and will extend to Princess Road, connecting to the Khalsa Data Center, enabling connectivity throughout the city.
