BSNL or Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited has announced a 50% cashback offer on payments made via PhonePe, Flipkart’s payment app. The state-run telecom operator will be giving cashback only to the prepaid customers who make their first BSNL recharge via PhonePe. This means if you have already used the app for recharging your BSNL prepaid number, then you are not eligible for this cashback.

BSNL’s PhonePe promotion is available to prepaid customers across all regions, who are yet to use the payment platform for doing a BSNL recharge. The eligible customers simply need to purchase any recharge pack from the PhonePe mobile app and make the payment using either debit/credit cards or internet banking to get the cashback.

BSNL will be giving maximum benefits of up to Rs 50 on recharges of Rs 250 or below, the company said in a statement. Those who purchase recharge packs of more than Rs 250 can avail Rs 75 as cashback.

The promotional offer is currently valid until February 20, 2018, and the cashback can be used for recharges, bill payments and merchant transactions on the PhonePe app. The cashback amount will be credited within 24 hours of the transaction. However, the cashback credited to a user cannot be withdrawn to any linked bank account or transferred to other users.

How to avail BSNL's 50% cashback offer on PhonePe?

  1. Start the PhonePe app, and click on the mobile icon within "Recharge & Pay Bills" section.
  2. Select or enter the BSNL mobile number you wish to recharge and check your circle.
  3. Select or enter the plan amount from the view plans section.
  4. Choose a payment option for the same.
  5. In case you hold a wallet balance, it will be automatically used for paying. So uncheck the checkbox to not use the wallet amount.
  6. Click on recharge to complete the transaction.

This is the latest in a series of BSNL’s promotional offers to retain customers and gain even more users, as rival such as Airtel and Jio continue to offer ever cheaper data and voice calling combos. The operator has introduced new plans offering 24 GBs to 120 GBs of data for validity period ranging from 24 days to 80 days in its packs priced from Rs 198 to Rs 561. These plans come with a free PRBT or personalised ring back tone facility, which enables subscribers to set up their own ringtone instead of the default ring.
