Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), a state-run Indian telecom operator, has received much less capital infusion compared to the last year in budget 2025. The union budget for 2025 was presented by the finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1, 2025. The capital infusion towards BSNL is down 53% YoY in the budget. This comes at a time when BSNL is looking to roll out 4G networks at a rapid pace and then also upgrade to 5G as soon as possibe.

According to a report from Livemint, BSNL will get Rs 33,757 crore as capital infusion from the central government in the 2025 budget. The state-run telco received Rs 72,027 crore in comparison in FY25. So for 2025-26, BSNL's capital infusion is pretty low, which could be a signal to the fact that the government expects BSNL to raise efficiency in operations and cut down on costs to move in the path of profitability. BSNL has already achieved operating profits.

In FY24, the center had allocated Rs 56,785 crore for BSNL in the budget. BSNL needs to move aggressively with rolling out networks if it wants to compete with the private telecom operators that have almost even achieved 5G rollout completion. BSNL is rolling out innovative services which are good for the consumers as they are different from what the private telecom operators are offering.
