BharatNet Phase 2

Developments are underway in Krishnagiri district as part of the BharatNet Phase II project, aiming to bring high-speed broadband connectivity to village panchayats. The implementation of this transformative initiative is being carried out by the Tamil Nadu Fibernet Corporation, with the goal of ensuring equal access to broadband connectivity across all blocks and village panchayats, said a report from The Hindu.

District authorities have outlined the project's approach, revealing that approximately 85% of the optical fibre cables will be laid alongside existing electricity lines. The remaining 15% will be discreetly installed underground. Once the infrastructure is established, the path will be paved for broadband connectivity in individual households, the leasing of broadband services, and the installation of mobile phone towers in these rural areas.

To oversee the implementation of this network infrastructure, all panchayat service centres and block service centres are acting as key focal points. With the optical fibre cables in place, the panchayat service centres will deliver impressive data speeds of up to 1 Gbps, ensuring seamless connectivity for the local communities.

This visionary project aligns with the digitisation of public services, as the administration plans to integrate services such as property tax payments, water tax payments, and building permissions into the panchayat systems. By leveraging the power of broadband connectivity, residents will experience enhanced convenience and efficiency in accessing these essential services.

Collector K.M. Sarayu has urged the active participation and cooperation of all stakeholders, including line departments, local representatives, farmers, and residents of the panchayats. Their collective support will be crucial in ensuring the successful execution of this ambitious initiative, heralding a new era of digital empowerment for Krishnagiri district's village panchayats.

Digital connectivity should be a basic human right in today's world to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to be successful. Projects such as this are pushing digital exclusion out of India and making it a better country for people to live in.
