Asus has begun rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo OTA update to its Zenfone 3 series. This is the second major update for the smartphone since the Taiwanese manufacturer rolled out the Android 7.0 Nougat OTA update to the devices just a few months back. As announced through Asus ZenTalk forums today, Google’s latest Android 8.0 Oreo update would take around a week to reach all the Zenfone 3 units.
The company listed two Zenfone 3 variants will be receiving the Android 8.0 Oreo OTA Update: ZE520KL and ZE552KL. The model numbers specify the device with model number ZE520KL is the 5.2-inch variant Zenfone 3 while the second model number ZE552KL is the 5.5-inch variant of Zenfone 3.
A push notification will notify the update availability. Asus said that update is rolling gradually and it could about as long as a week for you to get the update. However, users can also manually check its arrival by going to Settings > About > System Update.
Asus also warned users to free at least 1.5GB of space before starting the software update. Users are suggested to backup data and relocate media files such as photos and video to SD card to free up the internal storage.
As per the changelog mentioned by Asus in ZenTalk, internal storage on the smartphone will be decreased slightly, and the update also includes a new launcher. There won't be any app drawer icon as Asus has implemented swipe up functionality to get into the drawer. Also, the update brings new app icons as well. Alongside these, Asus also removed a few applications such as Minimovie, Photocollage, etc. Lastly, the update brings new user interface.
