Annual Prepaid Plans by BSNL and Reliance Jio Compared

As soon as the festivities started knocking on the doors, the telcos also began launching their unique Diwali offers, discounts and unique plans. The first among the many was the Mukesh Ambani led telco Reliance Jio which introduced a year-long validity plan as its Diwali offer. Apart from the usual voice-centric or add-on plans, this plan came as a singular one from Reliance Jio and the first of its kind in the market. However, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited wasn’t slow to respond as the government led telco answered back by launching an annual validity plan of its own. Down below, we have compared the two-year long validity plans by Reliance Jio and BSNL.

Reliance Jio 365 Days Validity Plan

The plan which Reliance Jio has launched for the festive season costs Rs 1,699 for the entire year, and it ships unlimited calling and data benefits. There are no limits on local or national calling on this plan, and the FUP limit is capped at 1.5GB per day after which the speed throttles down to 64 Kbps. Further, users get a free subscription to Reliance Jio’s host of apps. Over the 365 days period, the total data benefit for the subscribers sums up to be 547.5GB. The plan also offers 100 SMS per day.

Reliance Jio has also announced that subscribers who buy the Rs 1,699 plan before November 30 will be eligible for 100% cashback offer which will be provided to users in the form of five coupons worth Rs 500 and Rs 200. These coupons will be redeemable in Reliance Digital stores for purchases worth above Rs 5,000. The coupons won’t be redeemable together, and they will be valid until December 31, 2018. Another thing to note is that the 100% cashback won’t just be available for the year-long validity plan, but it will also be available for every Reliance Jio plan priced above Rs 100.

BSNL 365 Days Validity Plan

BSNL has delivered a blow to Reliance Jio by introducing two new annual validity plans priced at Rs 1,699 and 2,099. The Rs 1,699 plan offers 2GB data per day to the subscribers. However, there is no 4G network on BSNL as of yet so that’s one thing that customers should keep in mind. The after FUP speed of the BSNL is also higher which is 80Kbps, and thus more than what Reliance Jio offers. This plan also offers free unlimited national and local calling along with 100 SMS per day.

The highly priced plan of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited of Rs 2,099 offers 4GB data per day thus totalling into a 1460GB or 1.4TB prepaid plan in a year. This plan also provides other benefits like 100SMS per day and unlimited calling. However, the massive data benefit makes this plan the only one of its kind in the market.

With that being said, although BSNL offers more data for the same price with same benefits and more options along with a better after FUP speed, consumers won’t be able to experience 4G speeds on the BSNL network. Since BSNL has only recently received approval for the 4G network, it is going to take some time for the telco to deploy the 4G network.
