Motorola recently updated the second generation Moto G with Android 5.0 Lollipop which was surprisingly quick as it came ahead of some of the Nexus devices. It left us wondering as to when will the update come for the first generation Moto G as it shared the same internals with the second generation of the device.

But Motorola is already working on the update for the Moto G. Motorola has recently updated the Motorola services application on the first generation Moto G. The official changelog for the update states that : 'This update is necessary to enable a future upgrade of your device to Android 5.0, Lollipop.' The first gen Moto G is currently available for Rs 9,999 and is a pretty value for money device at that price point.

The application is required for getting OTA updates on the device. So seeing the fact that the downloader required for the update has been update,  the Android 5.0 Lollipop isn't far behind either. Be sure you update the app on your device. The Lollipop update should reach first gen Moto G devices before the year ends. Motorola also happens to be the only company to update its mid rangers to Android 5.0 Lollipop before everyone else.
