Amazon Prime Video Launches AI-Powered X-Ray Recaps Feature
Amazon Prime Video has introduced a new generative AI-powered feature, X-Ray Recaps, designed to help viewers quickly catch up on TV shows without spoilers. The feature, built upon existing X-Ray features, provides personalised, concise summaries of episodes, seasons, or specific moments within an episode, offering key plot points, cliffhangers, and character developments, the company said.

X-Ray Recaps Feature

"X-Ray Recaps is a generative AI-powered feature that creates brief, easy-to-digest summaries of full seasons of TV shows, single episodes, and even pieces of episodes, all personalised down to the exact minute of where you are watching," Amazon said in a Blog post this week.

Benefits of X-Ray Recaps for Prime Video Viewers

Powered by Amazon's Bedrock AI, custom AI models, and SageMaker models, X-Ray Recaps analyses video segments, dialogue, and subtitles to generate detailed but brief recaps. This allows users to jump right back into their shows, avoiding the need to rewatch or search for summaries elsewhere. "Guardrails are also applied to ensure the generation of spoiler-free and concise summaries," Amazon said.

"Prime Video product and technology teams work relentlessly behind the scenes to enhance customers' viewing experience, and with the creation of X-Ray Recaps, we're directly addressing a common problem customers face when streaming content: forgetting where they left off," said Adam Gray, vice president of product at Prime Video.

Feature Availability

Available on Prime Video's detail page or during playback, the feature builds upon the platform's existing X-Ray tool, which provides cast information, trivia, and production details. According to the company, X-Ray Recaps addresses the common issue of forgetting plot details between episodes, making it easier for viewers to stay engaged with their favourite series.

Prime Video announced that X-Ray Recaps is now in beta and will begin rolling out to Fire TV customers in the US starting November 4, with support for additional devices expected by the end of the year.
