Altafiber to Extend 10 Gbps Fiber Network to Northeast Ohio in 2025

Addition of 100,000 Addresses in Akron and Cleveland Suburbs with Plans for Further Expansion.

Altafiber to Extend 10 Gbps Fiber Network to Northeast Ohio in 2025
US communications service provider Altafiber announced the expansion of its 10 Gbps XGS-PON fiber network into Northeast Ohio, adding approximately 100,000 addresses in suburban areas of Akron and Cleveland. Construction in these areas is currently scheduled to begin in early 2025.

Targeted Counties and Communities

The regional fiber broadband expansion plan for Summit, Portage, Geauga, and Cuyahoga Counties includes Tallmadge, Kent, Hudson, Twinsburg, Solon, Streetsboro, Stow, Aurora, and other surrounding communities. Additionally, plans are being finalised to expand to more communities in Northeast Ohio, Altafiber said.

According to Altafiber, this expansion is part of its broader strategy to deliver ultra-fast, reliable internet essential for modern needs such as remote work, virtual learning, and telemedicine.

Commenting on the expansion, Altafiber said: "We are excited to expand into Northeast Ohio and deliver an outstanding customer experience while fully engaging with these communities."

Investment and Reach

The company said it has already invested USD 2 billion in its fiber network to date, spanning over 16,000 route miles in the Midwest. In Greater Cincinnati, Altafiber offers fiber-based services to nearly 100 percent of business and residential addresses.

In August 2023, Altafiber announced it would bring fiber to approximately 400,000 homes outside of its incumbent territories, including new markets in Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana.
