Airtel Tops Data Upload Speeds in Delhi: TRAI Report
Airtel has emerged as the leader in data upload performance, achieving an average upload speed of 34.37 Mbps in a recent Independent Drive Test (IDT) conducted in the Delhi LSA, according to a Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) report. Airtel recorded an average data download speed of 171.44 Mbps. The report, which tested network connectivity across the National Capital Region, covered a 635 km area, including 210 km of Metro stretches, Airtel said on Friday, January 17, 2025.

Call Drop Rate

Airtel achieved the lowest call drop rate of 0.12 percent against the QoS benchmark of 2 percent in the Delhi region, ensuring a seamless voice experience for its users in the capital. MTNL's call drop rate was the highest at 7.23 percent, followed by RJIL and VIL at 0.23 percent each.

Data Upload Performance

Airtel said it has "also surpassed its competitors by delivering a seamless and efficient experience with the highest upload speeds, enabling uninterrupted networks for content uploads, video conferencing, and cloud-based services." Reliance Jio recorded an average upload speed of 23.91 Mbps, while VIL and MTNL lagged behind with lower speeds of 4.59 Mbps on 4G and 1.67 Mbps on 3G, respectively.

Call Setup Success Rate

Additionally, in the test, Airtel maintained a high call setup success rate of 99.25 percent. RJIL recorded a lower call setup success rate of 94 percent. Furthermore, RJIL reported a server issue on September 17, 2024, the report said.

Mean Opinion Score

In terms of the Quality of Speech, Airtel achieved a score of 4.01 in the Mean Opinion Score (MOS), reflecting superior voice quality.

Airtel stated, "This remarkable performance showcases Airtel's commitment to strengthening its network infrastructure and its ability to cater to the growing demands of users in a digital-first world."

"Airtel's focus on optimizing both data and voice services aligns with the increase in digital users and reaffirms its position as a top telecom service provider in New Delhi, setting a high standard for others to follow," the company added.
