Till date, AIRCEL has 1800 3G BTS across Chennai city alone. If it’s operates 3G services via 900 Mhz band or 1800 Mhz band, the indoor coverage issue will solve easily. AIRCEL is now aggressively launching its 3G towers across Tamilnadu. Already DoCoMo and Reliance is using all AIRCEL 2G towers in Rest of Tamilnadu. Reliance 3G is also using AIRCEL 3G towers across Tamilnadu. Already DoCoMo 3G is waiting for AIRCEL’s strong 3G towers across Tamilnadu. AIRCEL needs atleast 10,500 3G towers (in 900 Mhz band) to handle data traffic from AIRCEL , DOCOMO, RELIANCE across Tamilnadu. As of… Read more »

The last time I travelled out of chennai deep into TN, was in late 2013. At that time, Aircel 3G & Vodafone 3G were available in least places. BSNL had 3G in most towns I visited & Airtel stood next. For eg – Mayiladuthurai had only Airtel & BSNL 3G. Tanjore had only Vodafone & BSNL. Within a few months, I read aircel has started 3G in Tanjore in Telecomtalk. Worst was in Karaikal, where I could see Aircel 3G banner in every part of the town, but 0 covergae. How is it in TN now? Has it improved. How… Read more »

For 3G in TN,

As on date, Vodafone has more than 6300 3G BTS (1800 Mhz band) across Tamilnadu.

Airtel has more than 7200 3G towers across TN.

But Aircel has only 2624 3G towers across TN. Soon it will touch 6000 by this Dec 2015 as per plan.

Insufficient AIRCEL 3G BTS, Tata DoCoMo unable to launch 3G services across TN.

Airtel is also costly (data tariffs). Aircel is cheap even in terms of speed. So only BSNL is the last choice for mobile data.

Or it is better to use broadband via WiFi in our home itself.

Disadvantages of aircel :

> Calls to 198 and 121 are chargeable as per STD call rates even during on net national roaming

> Calls to Chennai customer care 9841012345 and 9841056789 is chargeable from Tamilnadu using Tamilnadu aircel SIM. Still Tamilnadu and Chennai aircel customer care are not linked !!!

> No outgoing call facility in most of the networks during international roaming

> Worst 3G coverage in Chennai and Bangalore and worst 2G speed at Bangalore.
