GlobalNet Launches Stockholm-Berlin DWDM Subsea Fiber Route
GlobalNet has successfully launched a new 1,200-kilometer Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) fiber link that connects Stockholm and Berlin, expanding the company's European network infrastructure. This subsea cable, running under the Baltic Sea from Equinix SK1 in Stockholm to Speedbone DC in Berlin, achieves a latency of 12 milliseconds, GlobalNet said on Wednesday.

Launch of the Stockholm-Berlin Fiber Link

This launch completes GlobalNet's broader initiative, which included the rapid construction of two fully redundant DWDM ring routes earlier this year: Frankfurt-Stuttgart-Munich-Vienna-Bratislava-Prague and Frankfurt-Berlin-Warsaw-Katowice-Prague. Both ring routes were developed in nine months, the company noted, adding that the ISP has also established key Points of Presence (PoP) in Prague, Bratislava, Zurich, and London to enhance regional connectivity.

Key PoPs Launched This Year

This year, the company has launched key PoPs in: Stuttgart (EXA Edge DC), Zurich (Equinix ZH4), Munich (EXA Edge DC), Vienna (Digital Realty VE2), Bratislava (Sitel), Prague (CE Colo DC7), Katowice (4DC) and London (Telehouse North).

Alex Surkoff, GlobalNet's Business Development Director, said, "The new Stockholm-Berlin fiber connection, combined with our completed DWDM rings in Central Europe, significantly strengthens our network and improves service speed and reliability." He noted that the link supports capacities of up to 400G with complete channel redundancy, ensuring uninterrupted service for customers.

Commitment to Future Expansion in 2025

Surkoff acknowledged the technical and environmental challenges of laying the fiber through the Baltic Sea and thanked the team for their dedication.

Looking forward, GlobalNet plans to continue its expansion in 2025 with a new DWDM route from Bratislava to Sofia, passing through Budapest and Belgrade, enhancing high-speed connectivity across Europe.

GlobalNet is a backbone ISP headquartered in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The ISP operates its own DWDM network spanning over 15,000 kilometres and more than 70 Points of Presence, connecting key internet hubs across Eurasia.
