Maxis Launches Regional Internet Hub in East Malaysia
Malaysian operator Maxis has launched Regional Internet Hubs in East Malaysia to enhance the internet experience for customers. The inauguration of these hubs took place at Maxis’ Technical Operations Centre in Kota Kinabalu on August 15th and at the centre in Kuching on August 16th. The ceremonies were officiated by the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation of Sabah and the Minister of Utility and Telecommunication of Sarawak, respectively.

Enhanced Internet Infrastructure

Maxis stated that these new Regional Internet Hubs at Maxis’ Technical Operations Centres in Kota Kinabalu and Kuching represent significant network investments aimed at enhancing the customer’s internet experience and catering to both high data volumes and anticipated growth in volume.

Localized Mobile Traffic

According to the statement, Maxis had previously announced that it was the first telecommunications company to build the Regional Internet Hub in Kota Kinabalu and Kuching, with direct international content connectivity. Since its establishment, the regional hub has successfully localised 58 percent of the mobile traffic in East Malaysia, contributed by content delivery networks such as Meta, Google, Akamai and Netflix.

Maxis emphasized the benefits of the Regional Internet Hub for customers in Sabah and Sarawak stating: “Our Regional Internet Hub provides our Maxis customers in Sabah, Sarawak superior user experience enabling them to enjoy higher speeds and lower latency. Most of their web pages and videos will load faster and the videos will be sharper in image quality. Businesses in Sabah, Sarawak using technologies like cloud-based services, IoT applications and data analytics will enjoy similar marked improvements in speed and latency as well.”
