Taiwanese smartphone maker, Asus has finally started rolling out Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS) feature to its mid-range smartphone- Zenfone Max Pro M1. Asus announced this news on Twitter stating that the 6GB RAM variant of the Max Pro M1 will receive the update first followed by 3GB and 4GB RAM variants. This essentially means that the update for 3GB, 4GB RAM variants will take a while to receive it. But the 6GB RAM variant users are already receiving the update and if you're one among them, head over to the System Updates section under the Settings app and check for the update manually if you haven't received the automatic update notification.
Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1: 6GB RAM Variant Gets EIS
Xiaomi has launched the Redmi Note 5 Pro with Electronic Image Stabilisation feature earlier this year which was the first smartphone to launch with EIS under Rs 15,000. Later on, Asus introduced the Max Pro M1 with almost similar hardware, but it did not add EIS feature to the smartphone which disappointed many users out there. Considering that it sold over a million units of the handset, Asus decided to add EIS feature to the smartphone.
As mentioned above, the premium variant of the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 will get the EIS feature first and the update has started already. For the unaware, Asus launched a 6GB RAM variant of Max Pro M1 with improved optics in the form of 16MP+5MP on the rear side and a 16MP shooter on the front in July this year. This variant is retailing at a price of Rs 14,999 in the country.
Compared to the Zenfone Max Pro M1's 3GB & 4GB RAM variants, the 6GB RAM model offers way better camera performance and the performance is even close to the Redmi Note 5 Pro, which has remained an excellent performer since its launch. The October update also improves camera performance and the unlocking speed of fingerprint scanner gets a boost as well.
Asus Patches the Older EIS Method
Earlier, we detailed that the Snapdragon Camera application which comes installed on the Zenfone Max Pro M1 has a hidden EIS feature which can be enabled with a small trick. But several users on Asus ZenTalk forums are now reporting that they no longer can use the EIS feature which we detailed earlier. And several users who updated their device with the October update have raised their voice regarding this feature's removal from the Max Pro M1.
Notably, several 6GB RAM variant users were not able to activate the feature since the start itself, while the 3GB, 4GB RAM variant users did not face any issues. Maybe, Asus wants its users to enjoy the feature officially, but again, there's no timeline provided by the company on when the feature will be rolled out.
