Nokia 7 Plus to Receive Dual 4G Functionality Shortly

The Nokia 7 Plus is powered by the Snapdragon 660 SoC, which supports 4G in both SIM slots. However, for some unknown reasons, the 7 Plus doesn't support it yet. But the second SIM slot will receive LTE support 'shortly,' as confirmed by Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer, HMD Global. Replying to a review of Indian media publication, Juho confirmed this news. Notably, the Nokia 7 Plus in China received this functionality last month with the Android 8.1 Oreo update, so there are chances that the May 2018 security update could enable this feature in the Indian variant of the Nokia 7 Plus as the hardware has support for it.

The craze for dual 4G smartphones is increasing with every passing day, and it's one of the much-required features in 2018, at least for TelecomTalk readers (of course, we go through all your comments). There are only a few smartphones in the Indian market which has support for dual 4G. In fact, there are only two- one is the recently launched Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1, and the other one is the Honor View 10. Possibly, the Huawei P20 Pro might have support for dual 4G, but there's no mentioning on the same by Huawei on its website.

This would be a good addition by HMD Global as most of the telecom operators are now betting big on the 4G and all the operators are moving to VoLTE as well. So the dual 4G and dual VoLTE functionality will allow consumers to use two 4G networks at the same time.

Currently, almost all the smartphones are limited to 4G support in the SIM 1 slot, while the second SIM slot supports 3G/2G. So there's no way to use a Jio SIM card in the second SIM slot as the telco is the LTE-only operator.

The Nokia 7 Plus, in China also received Face Unlock feature last month and it's expected to be rolled out the Indian version as well very soon. The Nokia 7 Plus is now available for purchase at Rs 25,999 and for the asking price, it's an excellent smartphone with battery life and design being the standout features.
