Leading telecom operator Bharti Airtel has managed to grab 3.2 million Aircel customers in Tamil Nadu since the latter's struggles in the market. While Airtel managed to grab a large number of Aircel subscribers, state-tun teleco Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) added over 8 lakh Aircel subscribers. Vodafone India has reportedly added 2.7 million Aircel subscribers on to its growing subscribing list. Aircel has over 80 million subscribers in the country, out of which more than 30% subscribers are from Tamil Nadu state itself. However, it's not yet done as over 80 lakh customers are yet to port out from the network.
A report from The Hindu cites that Reliance Jio has denied revealing the Aircel customers it added onto the network. Talking about the 80 lakh customers who're yet to port out from Aircel, an analyst said to the publication as: “There are some customers who have two phones so they could have thought that they could migrate slowly. Another set of customers are still waiting to make their final settlement and pending payment. These are the three reasons why a huge section of people is still on the [Aircel] network.”
Analysts further added that the customers who were not able to port onto the other network are getting a new mobile connection, instead of looking for port out.
“In the last three days (ending Saturday), an additional 70,000 porting requests were received,” the report further added. Aircel has filed for bankruptcy in the last week of February leaving more than 80 million customers in sight of bother. There are still a massive number of subscribers facing network issues on Aircel and struggling in getting the bank OTPs and several other authentication based services.
The MNP numbers for the month of February and March will be on the higher side. Trai is yet to reveal the MNP and subscriber addition numbers for the last two months.
