HMD Global is now rolling out a new OTA update weighing 142MB to the entry-level Nokia 1 smartphone in India. The latest update for the Nokia 1 brings April 2018 security patch fixes along with some system stability fixes. The Nokia 1 is part of the Google's Android Oreo (Go Edition) program and features the least powerful hardware in the entire Nokia lineup of smartphones. HMD is known for pushing software updates on time, and the arrival of April 2018 security patch update to the Nokia 1 will not surprise many out there.
Already other Nokia phones such as the Nokia 6 (2018), Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco released alongside the Nokia 1 earlier this month have received the April 2018 security update. The Nokia 1 features entry-level hardware and is priced at Rs 5,499. However, with the Reliance Jio cashback offer, the price of the Nokia 1 comes down to Rs 3,299, and for that price, it's a decent smartphone to consider, especially when HMD provides software updates on a timely basis.
The road ahead for the Nokia 1 is unknown at the moment because Google is yet to disclose its plans for the Android P (Go Edition), so for now, the Nokia 1 users have to settle down with the monthly security updates.
Speaking about the hardware of the Nokia 1, it flaunts a 4.5-inch FWVGA display carrying a resolution of 854 x 450 pixels. The device is powered by the mediocre MediaTek MT6737M chipset, paired with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage. There's a microSD card slot as well for storage expansion. The device, as mentioned, runs Android Oreo (Go Edition) with optimised applications such as Google Go, Gmail Go, YouTube Go and so on.
A 5MP camera is present at the back of the phone along with a 2MP front-facing camera. These cameras may not inspire confidence, but for the asking price, you should not expect much, at least from HMD Global. The phone also offers 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and a micro USB port for charging & data transfer. The device draws its power from 2150mAh battery.
