Apple announced its Q4 2016 earnings to dethrone Samsung from top global smartphone manufacturer spot. According to a report by tech research firm dubbed as Strategy Analytics, Samsung is no more the king of smartphone manufacturer globally.
Apple sold around 800,000 smartphones more than Samsung, which fetched it whopping 78.3 million for Q4 2016. These earnings gave it a market share of 17.8%, which is just 0.1% more than Samsung, but even that counts as a win for Apple. These results are not surprising, as we all are aware of how Samsung has had a rough quarter due to a financial slump (around $17 Billion) caused by Galaxy Note7 recall.
On the other hand, Samsung's rival Apple recorded a jump of 5% in shipment between a period from Q4 2015 to Q4 2016. If Samsung's Note7 would have escaped the unfortunate turn of events, then Samsung would still be ruling the number one. It's worth pointing out that Samsung had to recall more than 2.5 million Galaxy Note7 units, which caused a dent in company's total shipment metric.
Regarding annual performance, Samsung still holds the number one spot as it shipped 309.4 million units globally while Apple shipped 215.4 million units.
Meanwhile, Oppo grew 99 percent annually to capture a record 7 percent global smartphone marketshare in Q4 2016, securing fourth position on the top manufacturer chart. Huawei managed to grab the third spot with 44.9 million shipments while Vivo settled for the fifth spot with 25.6 million shipments. Interestingly, Xiaomi failed to make it to the top 5 list this time.
