With Reliance Jio's pushing for public Wifi services, India's WiFi demographics is going to see multifold interests among service providers, end customers, equipment vendor and related others.
Reliance Jio and other existing mobile operators are rolling several WiFi hotspots across the country. The best part of these public WiFi is they are going with try before buying strategy.
One of the old players of this segment is O-zone. It's been present in the WiFi space for a very long time. Initially, O-zone services were fully paid but in some fast food chains, hotels it launched 'try before buy' free 30 minutes of usage.
I tried O-zone WiFi for first 30 minutes in McDonald's restaurant at Mani Square shopping mall.
Connecting to it is a very simple process. Switch on WiFi on your device, you will find an open WiFi connection - 'FreeWiFi_OZone_McDonalds' or 'OZone WiFi'. Connect to it, connection will be established. Now if you try to open any page, it will be redirected to the login page. There they will ask for your mobile no, type it and you'll get an SMS with the passcode. Type it in the box and you will be connected to the internet.

On my usage session, the downlink reaches 288KByte per seconds which is more than 1Mbps. IP range was in 122.163.x.x.
The experience was seamless, negligible fluctuations and speed was good enough for 30min free usage.
