Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has rolled out its in-house developed customer registration application, Sanchar Mitra, across India, restoring digital KYC and SIM onboarding services after a recent disruption.
The Sanchar Mitra app replaces the earlier Sanchar Aadhaar application, which was used for Aadhaar-based e-KYC verification to add new customers to the BSNL network. The previous app had been developed by a private vendor and was used by BSNL retailers and franchise partners for customer identity verification.

Contract Expiry Led to Service Disruption
The transition became necessary after the contract with the authorised service provider for the Sanchar Aadhaar app expired at the end of November 2025. The expiry resulted in temporary disruptions in customer registration services across the country, impacting the issuance of new SIM cards and replacement SIMs.
To address the issue and restore services quickly, BSNL engineers from across the country developed Sanchar Mitra internally under emergency conditions.
Nationwide Rollout Completed
BSNL, the Sanchar Mitra app has now been rolled out nationwide enabling retailers, franchisees, and field teams to resume digital customer onboarding. The company described Sanchar Mitra as a “Swadeshi app”, highlighting BSNL’s move towards reducing reliance on external vendors for core operational systems and strengthening internal technology capabilities.
Focus on Faster Customer Service
BSNL said the new application is playing an important role in delivering better and faster services to customers. By bringing the KYC and onboarding platform in-house, BSNL aims to improve operational control, system reliability, and response time during critical situations.
