Starting today, on August 28, 2023, telecommunications providers that have secured spectrum in the 3.5 GHz band can request licenses from the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) to activate 5G stations across over 100 municipalities in Brazil. This decision was announced following discussions held during the Ordinary Meeting of the Monitoring Group for the Implementation of Solutions for Interference Problems in the 3,625 to 3,700 MHz band on August 23rd - GAISPI.

Over 1800 Municipalities
With the decision, there will be 1,812 municipalities with the 3.5 GHz band available for use by 5G standalone stations, according to Brazil's National Telecommunications Agency. The work of anticipating the release of this band will continue in the coming months, as the actions of the 3.5 GHz Band Administrator Entity (EAF) progress, the regulatory said.
3.5 GHz Band Availability Grows
To facilitate the monitoring of the released municipalities, Group Monitoring the Implementation of Solutions for Interference Problems (GAISPI) provides a data panel presenting the municipalities in which the 3.5 GHz band has already been released and also the planning approved by GAISPI for the next releases.

However, it's important to note that the release of the 3.5 GHz band does not immediately translate to the immediate establishment of operational 5G networks within these regions. The deployment timeline for 5G stations in these cities depends on the unique strategies and individual roadmaps of each service provider.
