Zayo Group has announced a series of significant expansions to its independent fibre network infrastructure, including new long-haul dark fibre routes, increased fibre capacity for existing routes, and the implementation of 400 Gbps (400G)-enabled routes and new IP points of presence (PoPs), as per the official release.
Enhancing Global Connectivity
Zayo stated that these expansions come as part of Zayo's investment in its independent fibre network infrastructure, announced in April. The company plans to add nearly 3,000 route miles and over 700,000 fibre miles to its global network.
The new long-haul dark fibre routes offer diverse routing options, while their underground construction ensures the highest level of security and redundancy.
Prominent among these routes are connections from St. Louis to Indianapolis and the Chicago to Omaha Overbuild, strategically designed to provide enhanced connectivity in rapidly growing markets and more direct paths between key cities.

Network Modernization with 400G
According to the official release, as part of its commitment to network modernization, Zayo is rolling out 400G routes that deliver superior routing performance, high bandwidth, and reduced pricing for customers.
The company said four new 400G-enabled routes have been operational since the second quarter of 2023, with two more slated for completion in the third quarter. Among the cities that benefit from high-bandwidth options are Las Vegas to Phoenix, Kansas City to Indianapolis, Dallas to East St. Louis and others.
New IP PoPs and Data Centres
Furthermore, Zayo has announced enhancing the customer experience by developing new IP PoPs. These additions ensure seamless and uninterrupted communication for users across the network. The company had added 14 neutral data centres in Q1 and nine in Q2 across North America.
Growth Strategy
The company's ongoing efforts to pursue new building projects and modernize its infrastructure have been recognized through a USD 92.9 million grant from the National Telecommunications and Information (NTIA) Middle Mile Program.
Zayo said it is the sole national provider to receive funding to expand network infrastructure to unserved and underserved communities in eight states.
