Xiaomi has scheduled a launch of Redmi Y2 in an event which is going to be held in Delhi on June 7. As per a previous report, this new device which has been branded with the name of Redmi Y2 was initially launched in China with the name Redmi S2. With the date of the launch lurking right ahead on the calendar, there are many speculations surfacing regarding the price, specifications, design and specs of the phone. The reports have estimated that the price of the Redmi Y2 will start at Rs 9,999 and will go up to Rs 11,999 for advanced variants.
Some news came from Ishan Agarwal, a known tipster who claimed that the Redmi Y2 would be released in India in two variants. The entry-level variant will possibly come with 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage and the top variant has been estimated to come with 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage. He also speculated the price points which according to him would be Rs 9,999 and Rs 11,999 for the base and top variant respectively. The tipster also added that the device would come in three colours of Dark Grey, Gold, and Rose Gold. Since there has been no official confirmation from Xiaomi regarding this, we would like the readers to not take this information too seriously, as things can diverge a bit in the actual launch. However, Xiaomi might launch the smartphone starting at Rs 8,999 for the 3GB RAM variant, considering the competition it's facing from Realme right now.
Like we mentioned above, the Redmi Y2 packs the same specifications as the Redmi S2. To recall, the Redmi S2 comes with a 5.99-inch HD+ (720x1440 pixels) display which offers a 70.8% NTSC colour gamut. The chipset on the processor is the Snapdragon 625 SoC. The device sports a dual rear camera setup with a 12MP primary sensor and a 5MP secondary sensor. On the front, the phone has a 16MP camera which comes with AI Portrait Mode, AI Smart Beauty, Front HDR, and Face Unlock as enhancements. There is also a soft light flash module to aid users in lowlight settings. The storage is expandable up to 256GB using a microSD card. The phone comes with a micro USB port and packs a 3080mAh battery. The connectivity options on this phone include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, 3.5mm headphone jack.
This new device by Xiaomi is going to be an Amazon exclusive, which means that it will solely be sold on Amazon. The online marketplace has already listed the phone and is putting up teasers touting a Snapdragon processor, selfie LED light, dual rear camera, and fingerprint sensor. This new device is going to advance the Y series of smartphone in India, which Xiaomi started with the launch of the Redmi Y1 last year.
