Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 to Redmi Note 4: What has changed?

Follow Us

Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 3 back in February last year (in India), and in just over 10 months the company managed to sell over 3.6 Million Redmi Note 3 units in the country. Now, that’s quite an achievement, one must say.

Continuing the legacy of the Redmi Note 3, the Apple of East has launched its new mid-range warrior, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 in India a couple of weeks ago. Given the kind of success it’s predecessor had received, the Redmi Note 4 has some big shoes to fill — which will only happen if there’s a significant upgrade on the whole. That exactly brings us to the question: what has changed from Redmi Note 3 to the Redmi Note 4?

Well, here’s the answer.

Subtle design changes

For the most part, the Redmi Note 4 carries the same design language we have seen on its predecessor. Having said that, there are a few subtle changes (or improvements, if we must say) as far as design is concerned. For instance, the speaker grill (remember the muffled sound produced by Redmi Note 3 when placed on a flat surface?) is now located at the bottom of the phone close to the Micro-USB port. Also, the back has slightly more curved edges which offers a better in-hand feel.

At 165g, the Redmi Note 4 is on the heavier side (in comparison to its predecessor). However, thanks to the proper weight distribution that won’t be a problem.

Snapdragon 625 SoC

The Redmi Note 4 now has a 2.0 GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 SoC. To recollect, its predecessor had a Snapdragon 650 chipset.

Okay, at first glance, the inclusion of Snapdragon 625 SoC may feel like a downgrade. But, for the most part, you may not see the difference if it isn’t for heavy gaming. Moreover, the Snapdragon 625 SoC is based on a 14nm node which is quite famous for its energy efficiency without compromising on performance.

4GB of RAM

The Redmi Note 4 has a 4GB of RAM variant. Also, the company is now offering 32GB as base storage on all the three variants. Now, that’s a happy welcome.

Slightly bigger battery and a new color

Although not a significant upgrade, the Redmi Note 4 now has a 4,100mAh battery as opposed to the 4,050mAh battery on the Redmi Note 3.

Xiaomi has also added a new color, Matte Black to be precise to the lineup and boy it looks gorgeous.

Verdict

Overall, the Redmi Note 4 is not a huge upgrade over its predecessor (this doesn’t mean that the handset is bad or so). However, the company had addressed a few pain points which make the Redmi Note 4 a good bargain, for what it's worth. If you are looking for a budget phone under Rs. 15,000, the Redmi Note 4 is worth some serious consideration.

So, what do you think about the device? How many of you managed to get your hands on the Redmi Note 4? Do let us know through the comments section below. Also, if we’ve missed out on anything feel free to add.
