Xiaomi Teases Mi A3 Android One Smartphone Launch in India

Xiaomi Mi A3 is the next Android One smartphone from the Chinese smartphone company to launch in India. Xiaomi India has officially teased the smartphone's arrival with a one-minute long video featuring Manu Kumar Jain, the Global VP of Xiaomi. In the video, Manu asked the Mi Fans to guess when they will be launching the Mi A3 in India, also confirming that one person will be lucky enough to get a Mi A3 from the company for free. The Xiaomi Mi A3 is the fourth Android One smartphone from the company and it was launched last month in multiple global markets. The Mi A3 will succeed the Mi A2 in India which wasn't well-received by the consumers, thanks to the smaller battery and the lack of 3.5mm headphone jack. The same might be the case with Mi A3 as well as it comes with one major flaw.

Xiaomi Mi A3: Specifications and Expected Launch Date

Xiaomi has officially started teasing the Mi A3 smartphone in India, so the launch might happen by the end of this month. According to a report by Smartprix that surfaced online last month, Xiaomi will launch the handset on August 23 which is just over a year from the Mi A2 launch in India. The Mi A3 is a direct successor to the Mi A2, but in some ways, it doesn't feel like that.

Firstly, the Mi A3 comes with a 6-inch HD+ AMOLED display. Yes, you heard it right, the phone packs an HD+ screen which is underwhelming. At the moment, it's unknown why Xiaomi has gone with an HD+ screen on a mid-range smartphone, but we'll get to know that once the price comes out. Thankfully, it's an AMOLED screen and also has an in-display fingerprint scanner beneath.

Another thing which disappoints a lot of customers is the Snapdragon 665 chipset which isn't a major upgrade compared to the full-fledged Snapdragon 660 SoC we saw on the Mi A2. The phone comes with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.

The Mi A3 has three cameras on the rear side and it could be the affordable Xiaomi phone to offer the setup. The phone has the Sony IMX586 48MP primary sensor, 8MP ultra-wide sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. Upfront, it has a 32MP selfie shooter. Being an Android One smartphone, the Mi A3 boots stock version of Android 9 Pie out of the box. Lastly, the phone comes backed by a 4030mAh battery, which is one of the major upgrades compared to the Mi A1 and Mi A2 smartphones.

Xiaomi Mi A3: Expected Pricing in India

Like last year, Xiaomi might launch two variants of the Mi A3 in India- 4GB+64GB and 6GB+128GB with the latter arriving at a later date. The price of the base variant could well be below Rs 15,000 this time around considering the Snapdragon 665 chip and the HD+ display. It will be interesting to see if Xiaomi makes any changes to the Indian variant of the Mi A3 compared to the global variant.
