Xiaomi has finally brought the premium 6GB RAM variant of the Mi A2 to India. Announced back in August 2018, the Mi A2 is available in the country in a single variant with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. But starting today, the Mi A2 can be purchased in two variants- 4GB+64GB and the all-new 6GB+128GB option. Notably, Xiaomi announced that the premium variant of Mi A2 would launch in India back at the launch event itself. And finally, it has arrived with a price tag of Rs 19,999. However, the phone will be available at an introductory price of Rs 17,999 on both Amazon India and Mi.com. That being said, the price of the smartphone can even be reduced with the ongoing bank offers on both the portals. Xiaomi did not reveal the offline availability of this new variant though. The Chinese company is already selling the 4GB RAM variant of Mi A2 across Mi Home stores and Mi Preferred Partner stores in the country.

Xiaomi Mi A2 6GB RAM Variant: Specifications and Features

Besides the bump in RAM and internal storage, the specifications of the handset remain the same. The phone sports a 5.99-inch Full HD+ display on the front with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection and 2.5D curved glass. Underneath, it has the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset, clubbed with 4GB/6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB of onboard storage. Do make a note that the Mi A2 lacks a microSD card slot which is the reason why Xiaomi brought a premium variant of the handset to India.

The Xiaomi Mi A2 is an Android One smartphone and it runs a clean version of stock Android 8.1 Oreo with no bloatware. Xiaomi also confirmed the phone would get Android P update by the end of this year. The highlight of the Mi A2 is its cameras. There are two cameras on the rear side- a 12MP primary shooter is paired with a 20MP secondary shooter. On the front side, it has a 20MP shooter. The Xiaomi Mi A2 is the best camera smartphone under Rs 20,000 price point.

The phone also lacks a 3.5mm headphone jack, which is underwhelming to see on a mid-range handset. It's backed by a 3000mAh battery and offers connectivity options such as Dual 4G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS and a USB Type-C port.

Xiaomi Mi A2 6GB RAM Variant: Pricing and Availability

The 6GB RAM variant of the Mi A2 is already available for purchase in India. Interested customers can purchase it via Amazon India or Mi.com. The 6GB RAM option is available in four colours- Black, Blue, Gold and Red.

Aforesaid, the new variant will be available at Rs 19,999, but as an introductory offer, Xiaomi will be selling the phone for Rs 17,999. It's unknown when this introductory offer will end. Right now, Amazon India and Xiaomi India are hosting Diwali sales on the respective platforms. Users with SBI cards will get an instant 10% discount on Mi.com, while ICICI card users will get the same 10% discount on Amazon India. The 4GB RAM variant of the Mi A2 is currently available for Rs 14,999 as part of the festive sale.

Xiaomi Mi A2 6GB RAM Variant: Competitors in India

At the introductory price of Rs 17,999, the 6GB RAM option of Mi A2 takes on the Realme 2 Pro whose 6GB RAM and 64GB storage option is available at Rs 15,990. The 8GB+128GB storage model of Realme 2 Pro can be purchased for Rs 17,990. But the Realme 2 Pro lags behind Mi A2 in the camera department despite sporting similar hardware. On the brighter side, it looks better than the Mi A2, the premium variant offers 8GB of RAM, has a larger 3500mAh battery, and yes, it also offers 3.5mm headphone jack and microSD card slot for storage expansion.
