Vodafone Idea Limited, the biggest telecom operator with the largest subscriber base, has announced it is installing modern network technologies in the Delhi NCR region to enhance the 4G experience. This network modernisation by Vodafone Idea will mean that consumers will get to experience better quality 4G services and besides the fact that the new technologies being deployed are 5G ready as well. As part of this new network modernisation, Vodafone Idea will be setting up tech like Massive MIMO, Small Cells and TDD sites thus enhancing coverage and network capacity in this region. Currently, Vodafone Idea has already deployed more than 4,000 Massive MIMO, small cells and TDD sites in the Delhi NCR region and for the network upgrade, the same momentum is expected to continue in the upcoming months.

New Massive MIMO Site Goes Live in West Delhi

On February 25, Vodafone Idea official inaugurated a new Massive MIMO site at Inder Puri, West Delhi. It is worth noting that a Massive MIMO site is different from the conventional single antenna site in many aspects. The cutting edge smart antenna technology uses many antennas instead of just one to increase the capacity and speed manifold. The multiple antennas spread out in angular shape to cover a broader range as compared to the older single antennas thus making them ideal for usage in areas of high footfall and traffic. On the other hand, small cells are another method of deploying a network in congested places where standard deployment is not possible.

On the launch of the new Massive MIMO site, P Balaji, Chief Regulatory & Corporate Affairs Officer, Vodafone Idea Ltd, Vijender Garg – MLA AAP, Rajinder Nagar and Arvinder Singh, Delhi Business Head, Vodafone Idea Ltd were present. Along with other team members of VIL, the officials together attended the launch of the new Massive MIMO site which marks as the start of the further network modernisation by Vodafone Idea in the Delhi NCR region.

Ericsson Bags Contract from Vodafone Idea for 5G Ready LTE Equipment

Vodafone Idea, the largest telecom operator in the industry is already marching ahead in strides towards the deployment of 5G technology. Since the technologies that it is deploying presently are 5G ready, the telco will have a smooth transition to the fifth generation network. Only a few days back, Vodafone Idea had announced that it had granted the Swedish manufacturer, Ericsson the contract for providing 5G ready equipment to the company in many circles of India. Ericsson currently serves eight circles of Vodafone Idea as opposed to Nokia, which provides equipment to the telco in nine circles. The LTE ready equipment of Ericsson will mean that the telco will be able to run 5G trials in the coming days smoothly.
