Vivo, a Chinese smartphone maker, for the first time, has captured the highest share of smartphone market volume in 2024. According to data from Counterpoint Research, in the India Smartphone Market Volume share, 2024, Vivo captured 19% share. It was the largest amongst every brand including Xiaomi, Samsung, OPPO, and Realme. This means that Vivo shipped the highest number of smartphones during the calendar year 2024 in India.
In the value segment though, which is the total value of smartphones shipped, brands like Samsung and Apple were way ahead of Vivo and other smartphone brands. This is because these companies sell super premium devices in the market and thus are likely to capture a lot of value. As per Counterpoint Research, in the India Smartphone Market Value Share, 2024, Apple had the largest share with 23%. Samsung was right behind Apple with a 22% share. Vivo ranked third with a 16% share.

Vivo is also trying to capture the super-premium smartphone market share with devices such as Vivo X100 and Vivo X200 series.
Nothing Emerges as the Fastest-Growing Brand
With launches including the Nothing 2a series and its affordable brand CMF, Nothing emerged as the fastest-growing brand with an impressive growth of 577% in 2024. Motorola also saw impressive growth during the year with 82% growth YoY.

There was also amazing growth in the 5G smartphone segment. As per data from Counterpoint, 5G phone shipment penetration reached 78% in 2024. This was possible due to the entry-level 5G chipsets.
"Premium smartphones now account for one in five shipments in India as?demand for high-end features grows. With hardware differentiation narrowing, OEMs are leveraging GenAI to offer hyper-personalized experiences, intuitive UIs, and advanced audio-visual technologies like Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos," said Counterpoint.
