Uninor the regional operator with operations in 6 circles has reduced the validity of Rs.42 data voucher offering 250MB 2G data and unlimited WA/FB in Gujarat circle from 28 days to 21 days. This implies a 25% reduction in validity keeping the denomination and data quota constant. Uninor also offers a Rs.63 voucher with the higher 28-day validity which gives 500MB 2G data with unlimited WA/FB. The change in validity for the Rs.42 voucher came into effect from 10th March, for which Uninor notified its subscribers via SMS.
Uninor currently only offers 2G data in the circles of Maharashtra, Gujarat, UP East, UP West, Andhra Pradesh and Bihar. In all of these circles, it possesses contiguous spectrum upwards of 5MHz in 1800MHz band which is technologically neutral and can also be used for offering FD-LTE. In an interview with Business Standard, Mr. Vivek Sood CEO of Telewings communications services revealed that Uninor’s current focus is on voice services keeping in mind the affordability factor. In the long run, Uninor plans on deploying narrow band FD-LTE for offering high-speed data services. Uninor may also look at options of spectrum sharing or merger with a larger telco for expanding to Pan India presence.
