Countering Xiaomi India, homegrown smartphone brand Micromax has launched a new smartphone under its popular Bharat range of smartphones. Dubbed as the Micromax Bharat 5, it is backed by a massive 5000mAh battery. The Bharat 5 is the only smartphone to feature such a massive battery at a price of just Rs 5,555. The Bharat 5 comes with a tagline of "The Power Of 5".

This smartphone will be available in a single Black colour option starting this Tuesday. Micromax stated that it's aiming to see six million units of Bharat 5 smartphone until March 2018. The goal set by the company comes on the backing of 3 million Bharat smartphone units it sold since the series introduction.

Going by the price of the Bharat 5, it is aimed at Xiaomi Redmi 5A which was launched in India yesterday at Rs 4,999 (for the first 5 million smartphones). Apart from the attractive price tag and the massive battery, rest of the specifications of Bharat 5 are mediocre.

The Micromax Bharat 5 sports a 5.2-inch HD display with no mentioning of the protective layer. The smartphone is powered a quad-core MediaTek chipset along with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. For the addition of storage, the Bharat 5 comes with a microSD card slot.

Cameras in the Micromax Bharat 5 include a 5MP rear camera with LED flash and Bokeh mode, and a 5MP front-facing camera, which incidentally also comes with an LED flash support. The device boots Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box, and there won’t be any upgrade to Android Oreo in the near future.

Lastly, Micromax promises 500 hours of standby time for the Bharat 5, which doesn’t seem to be a surprising number given that the phone has a beefy 5000mAh battery unit. Connectivity options in the device include 4G LTE, VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS, and a micro USB port.

Further, Micromax has partnered with Vodafone India earlier this month. And under the same partnership, Vodafone is offering additional 10GB data every month for five months for the Bharat 5 smartphone buyers.
