The GoI’s note to ISPs reveals rising defacement of Indian Websites issues various security guidelines

As per our internal sources Govt of India has sent a note stating observation done on the recent hack attack on Indian websites from June 2013 - August 2013. According to the note a total number of 2858 sites were hacked in the month of june , 2380 in July and 4191 in August 2013 respectively, couple of months back even sites like BSNL and MTNL were targeted by hackers which was down for almost 32 hours .

80% of the sites were on .in Domain in June and almost 12 Govt sites got hacked in the month of august 2013, information disclosure vulnerability in the BOTCHA sam prevention module Drupal were observed to be largely exploited for the defacements by Hackers on Indian sites.

The note also suggest various security guidelines which has been issued by CERT-In to secure web apps and web services to various admins such as guidelines for auditing and logging, securing IIS/7.0 Web Server Guidelines, Web Server security Guidelines etc.
