In the past few years after the introduction of the fourth-generation network and the data tariff war which was introduced by the Mukesh Ambani led Reliance Jio, calling and data benefits have not remained the only differentiating factor between plans. Now the data benefits and the calling benefits alone don’t suffice for an attractive prepaid pack, but only the plans which bundle massive content offering along with these general benefits qualify as a good choice in the eyes of the consumers. We decided to do a bird-eye analysis of the content bundle which the telecom operators are offering with their prepaid plans. So, let’s get right on and see what each telco offers on the content front and which one provides the best benefits.
Reliance Jio Content Benefits and Portfolio
The first telecom operator we are going to be looking at is Reliance Jio. The telco can also coincidentally be credited for making content offerings mainstream owing to robust 4G network and its massive consumer base. When it comes to content, Reliance Jio offers the live TV app, Jio TV where subscribers will be able to catch around 600 live TV channels, along with Jio exclusive channels as well. On the VOD (Video on Demand) front, the telco offers the JioCinema app where subscribers can access plenty of movies and TV shows along with Disney content as well.
Further, the telecom operator also has the JioSaavn app under its banner after the acquisition of Saavn to provide a massive music content library under its banner. Additionally, Jio has also got a few other apps for its subscribers like JioNews and more to provide access to textual content.
Bharti Airtel Content Benefits and Portfolio
Next up on the list, we have Bharti Airtel which has also one of the most impressive content offerings in the market. On the Live TV front, the telco offers Airtel TV app. Similar to Jio TV, the app provides live TV access to the subscribers, but it also doubles down as a video on demand (VOD) application as it offers more than 10,000 movies and TV shows for subscribers thus eliminating the need for a separate OTT app. There is content from HOOQ, Eros Now, ALT Balaji, Hungama and more. On the music front, the telco provides free access to Wynk music app which is a lot similar to JioSaavn in functioning and width of the content library. Recently Airtel has also launched the Wynk Tube app which provides video and audio both for music tracks. Additionally, Airtel also offers Airtel Books app for textual content.
Vodafone Idea Content Portfolio
Lastly, we have Vodafone which offers Vodafone Play app with video on demand as well as live TV content, but the app does not offer as much variety of content or channels as the other two telecom operators. The app ships content from ZEE5, ALTBalaji, Arre and more content providers to the Vodafone subscribers. Similarly, Idea subscribers get access to Idea Movies and TV app which offers Live TV, movies, TV shows, originals and web series from SonyLIV, ZEE5, Shemaroo Me, Sun NXT, Hoichoi, Eros Now, Hungama and more. But again, the variety of content which Idea offers is not as comprehensive as Reliance Jio.
Verdict
It is definitely a tough call to demarcate a line between the telcos when it comes to content since there are many verticals and a very competitive playing field. When it comes to music, Airtel has taken the edge owing to the new Wynk Tube app which combines both audio and video for music tracks. However, overall, Reliance Jio has the most massive content library thus earning it an edge over the other telecom operators.
